- This cute little guy is a Shetland Sheepdog (also called a Sheltie), just 11 weeks old. He is a discount puppy, as he was the last of a litter.
He had two strikes against him. He was the runt of the litter, and he is a boy. Most puppy buyers ask for female pups, thinking they are calmer. That may be true, but we were looking for a little spitfire to be friends with our 1 1/2 year old Sheltie, O’Malley, who is a busy, playful furball. (We also have an 11 year old Labradoodle, named Cay. She sleeps a lot.)
The dog breeder had to bring this pup into her kitchen and hand-feed him, so he would get his share. His big brothers and sisters weren’t giving him a spot at the milk-bar, or the food bowl. Since then, he has caught up to his siblings in size. We are so happy he had such a good friend to help him get a good start!
As we were driving home, I posted on Facebook, asking friends and family to help us name him.
Do you have any suggestions?
After you think of a name, write a short story about what it must have been like for him as a little puppy pushed aside by his big brothers and sisters. If you send it to me, I’ll post it on this site. 🙂
